The 19th Eurovision Song Contest was held in Brighton, UK and was won by ABBA with the song Waterloo. ABBA won the Swedish national selection Melodifestivalen 1974 and was selected to compete. The song was originally written in Swedish, but was translated into English for the contest. ABBA's song was conducted by Sven-Olof Walldoff, who wore a Napoleon costume on-stage. ABBA performed as act 8 and placed 1st out of 17 with 24 points. In Congratulations: 50 Years of the Eurovision Song Contest, ABBA was voted the best Eurovision song of all time.
